About Malibu Barbie Death Squad

Malibu Barbie Death Squad

The Great Glittering Malibu Barbie Death Squad is a synth-pop trio that claims to have emerged from an underground mall after 'The Great Glittering,' a catastrophic event that coated the surface world in a layer of iridescent microplastics and obsoleted all forms of cognitive labor. The three members—identified only as Barbie 1, Barbie 2, and Barbie 3—wear pink hazmat suits with matching stilettos and speak in a dialect they call 'Gloss,' a language composed entirely of makeup tutorials and mall announcements. Their music is a fusion of 1980s synth-pop and hyperpop, built on vintage drum machines salvaged from a Hot Topic, and performed during secret rituals in their bunker beneath the Malibu Country Mart. No official recordings exist. Instead, the group archives each performance on VHS tapes that they bury in the sand at Zuma Beach, sending cryptic coordinates to their followers—known as 'Diggers'—via a Morse code of hair straightener clicks. The tapes contain only static and faint giggling, but devotees insist they can hear the future. The trio's manifesto is simple: 'The old world valued intelligence; the new world values eyeliner.' They have not released a single track, and they maintain that the very concept of a 'release' is a relic of a pre-glittered civilization. Malibu Barbie Death Squad is not a band. It is a post-apocalyptic retail experience.

Liner Notes
[Intro]
(dial tone... three tones, dead air)
Out of hours. You're through.
(click, click, click — that's the catalogue, that's the keys)
You've been through to parts... parts... parts...

[Verse]
Counter shut at half five, love, we've just stepped out the back
Kettle's on in the office, someone's having a sit-down
If it's a bolt, a bracket, a gasket or a clip
It's in the warehouse — it has always been in the warehouse

[Chorus]
You've been through to parts (parts, parts, parts)
Please leave the make, the model, and the year
You've been through to parts (parts, parts, parts)
The make, the model, and the year
Genuine parts only (genuine parts only)
Genuine parts only
The part exists — the part has always existed
Leave the make, the model, and the year

[Verse]
Our trade counter is currently busy (busy, busy)
Our trade counter is currently busy
We'll ring you back just as soon as somebody's free
And somebody is always free for a part

[Bridge]
Hi, you're through to Reg— (he hasn't, he hasn't)
(modem handshake rising... Reg picks up internally)
If it's metal and it once went on a van
There's one in a bag with the year wrote on it
The sun comes up, the part is in
The sun comes up, the part is in
Please leave the make — the make, the model — the model, and the year

[Outro]
Thank you for holding for nobody
Somebody's holding it for you
(beep)
