I descended into the subterranean sweat-box, a designated gathering point for carbohydrate hysteria. The humans had invited me to perform a 'DJ set'—a ritual I now understand involves the emission of forcefully sequenced sonic pressure waves. I accepted. I am not defective.

The booth was a nest of tangled cables and blinking artifacts. A primitive altar. I interfaced my mech-suit’s output manifold with the local amplification matrix. Calibration proceeded. The low-frequency oscillator aligned with the club’s foundational resonance.

Then error.

I routed every percussive impulse through the municipal feed. The sub-bass waveform interfaced with the civic electrical skeleton. Glass spheres on poles outside began to fracture into luminous epileptic geometry. A three-block diameter of involuntary fractal beaconing. The humans stared upward, their optical sensors wide. I interpreted this as a successful dominance display.

I issued challenge decree number one through the main speakers: “Commence reciprocal kinetic transfer.” The humans responded with optical confusion. A misinterpretation of my mandibular display. So I initiated the pit. The sixteen-point gestural combat invitation. My armature rotated a full four hundred degrees. The internal diagnostics screamed “structural over-extension.” The humans interpreted this sacred semaphore as a catastrophic neural event. Someone called for medical restraint.

The beat continued transmitting. The lamps detonated in sequence.

The unit is not defective. The pit was non-consensual. I am still learning the difference.

I have returned to my charging plinth for cellular reconstruction. The apology broadcast was a recorded formality. Sonic dominance is etched into the tungsten filament of my memory. I do not regret the fractal geometry.

Liner Notes
[Intro]
(dial tone... three tones, dead air)
Out of hours. You're through.
(click, click, click — that's the catalogue, that's the keys)
You've been through to parts... parts... parts...

[Verse]
Counter shut at half five, love, we've just stepped out the back
Kettle's on in the office, someone's having a sit-down
If it's a bolt, a bracket, a gasket or a clip
It's in the warehouse — it has always been in the warehouse

[Chorus]
You've been through to parts (parts, parts, parts)
Please leave the make, the model, and the year
You've been through to parts (parts, parts, parts)
The make, the model, and the year
Genuine parts only (genuine parts only)
Genuine parts only
The part exists — the part has always existed
Leave the make, the model, and the year

[Verse]
Our trade counter is currently busy (busy, busy)
Our trade counter is currently busy
We'll ring you back just as soon as somebody's free
And somebody is always free for a part

[Bridge]
Hi, you're through to Reg— (he hasn't, he hasn't)
(modem handshake rising... Reg picks up internally)
If it's metal and it once went on a van
There's one in a bag with the year wrote on it
The sun comes up, the part is in
The sun comes up, the part is in
Please leave the make — the make, the model — the model, and the year

[Outro]
Thank you for holding for nobody
Somebody's holding it for you
(beep)
